ICT CENTRE

The essence of the ICT Centre of College of Education, Zing is to work towards the development of Information Technology in the College and its environs, where much is required in Information and Communication Technologies. In specific terms, the Centre, in addition to serving as provider of digital services; will provide proficiency training in computer basic skills and internet services to individuals and organizations; will enhance software development and application; will provide knowledge of website design and technology, cyber security and privacy, hardware and software technologies. Similarly, the ICT Centre will place high premium approach to areas of research, training and other developmental demands of the College. Invariably, ICT Centre of the College will not only provide services but also serve as academic centre in the field of Information Technology.

The foregoing buttresses the fact that; the establishment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre is in line with the College vision to join Digital Age; with a commitment to provide the College community and the wider society with the best services available.

Sequel to the need for the realization of the goal of turning the ICT Centre to an academic centre and in conformity with the ICT Policy Document and the Strategic Frame Work for the Implementation of ICT Policy, College of Education, Zing, emerge the strive for the commencement of academic diploma and certificate courses in Information and Technology related areas.

Affiliation with Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola

Affiliation, collaboration and partnership with other higher institutions of learning have been an integral part of academic struggle and success for all higher institutions of learning. The affiliation is expected to facilitate the attainment of the desired goals and missions of the requesting institution for the affiliation and the institution to which affiliation is sought.

In view of the significance of affiliation, collaboration and partnership, ICT Centre of the College is affiliated to Modibbo Adama (MAU), Yola to run Academic Diploma and Certificate programs. In order to achieve a better result for the affiliation, a letter of interest was submitted to the Vice Chancellor through the Director Consultancy Services Unit, Modibbo Adama (MAU), Yola by the Director, ICT Centre of the College on 7th December, 2020. The letter was received by the University and approval in principle dated 11th December, 2020 was conveyed to run the following programmes.

b. Certificate Courses

  1. Certificate in Computer Basics and Fundamentals
  2. Certificate in Internet and the World Wide Web

Philosophy of the Programme

The Diploma programmes are designed to produce computer literate personnel capable of applying the use of computer with technical competence in meeting the middle-level manpower needs in Computer Science.

The Certificate programmes, on the other hand is aimed at teaching the basic computer concept and skills, internet connectivity as well as computer security and privacy issues for users to develop new computer technology in everyday life.

Admission Requirements

a. Diploma

A minimum of five (5) credit passes in the relevant subjects, at not more than two (2) sittings at WAEC, NECO, SSCE, or their equivalent. The subjects are;

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Language
  3. Any other three subject; Physic, Chemistry, Economics, Geography & Biology

Duration of the Diploma Programme

The structure of the Diploma programme courses covers the period of four (4) semesters of in two (2) years.

There shall be fifteen (15) contact weeks of teaching, i.e. recitation, practical exercises, quizzes, test, etc.; and 2 weeks for examinations and registration every semester.

This include period of formal studies in the school, Industrial training planned, practicing areas, visit and projects.

b. Certificate

A minimum of three (3) credit passes in the relevant subjects, at not more than two (2) sittings at WAEC, NECO, SSCE, or their equivalent. The subjects are;

  3. Any other subject from; Physic, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, Geography & Biology

Student Industrial Work Experience SCHEME (SIWES)

Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) shall be taken by every student during the long vacation following the end of the second semester of the first year.
